He has been coached by some of the most successful and inspirational Senior National Team coaches in the United States. Dave has won Olympic, World and Pan-American Games medals, in addition to national titles and victories at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta. Coach Krmpotich has spent the last 20 years coaching high school athletes, several who have competed for the United States on World and Olympic Teams. I welcome Dave and wish our program the best of success!"- Ross Flemer, Vice President, Penn AC Rowing Association.
Coach Krmpotich is no stranger to the National and Olympic Rowing scene. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Krmpotich was recruited by legendary Coach Ted Nash to train and compete for Penn AC during the summer of 1978. In 1979, Krmpotich moved from Silver Bay, MN to train with Penn AC in Philadelphia, where he qualified to represent the United States at the Pan American Games in his first year rowing with Coach Nash.
His first World Championship Bronze Medal came in 1986, as a member of the M8+ where he rowed in the 4 seat with other US Olympians, Edward Ives, Thomas Kiefer, Tom Terwillger, Kevin Still, and Andrew Sudduth.
In 1988, Krmpotich, then 33 years of age, qualified to represent the United States at the Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea., where he and his teammates won a Silver Medal in the M4- (four without coxswain) Krmpotich rowed with fellow Penn AC teammates, Richard Kennelly Jr. (Harvard University), Thomas Bohrer (FIT), and Raoul Rodriguez (Tulane University).
To add to Dave's distinguishing achievements, a few days before the Olympic Games were officially underway, Coach Krmpotich was selected by the entire US Olympic Delegation (i.e. All athletes and coaches of all sports disciplines at the Olympics) to be the lone US athlete to carry the Olympic flame in the Olympic Torch Relay.
Coach Krmpotich has been the Head Coach for the Monsignor Bonner High School Team for over 23 years, and has coached many athletes who have been recruited by top schools in the country and who have represented the country at the World Championships and the Olympic Games.
"The goal is simple. To build Penn AC's Elite Program back to what it has been in past." - Dave Krmpotich, President and Elite Coach, Penn AC Rowing Association.
Coach Krmpotich has already begun working with the Penn AC Elite Athletes. Penn AC's Ross Anderson and Steve Whelpley finished 5th and 6th respectively in the M1x at the National Selection Regatta this past weekend.
"It is indeed wonderful news that Coach Krmpotich has accepted the position of Elite Coach at Penn AC. His wealth of experience and leadership skills will give our top athletes a "world class coach" who will direct them to reach their full potential."
