It's official! This year's Stotesbury Cup Regatta is the largest ever with over 5,000 athletes competing in a record number of 850 boats.
What began in 1927 as a local Philadelphia "Cup Race" has evolved into today's 28 championship events, ranging from the solitary single scull to the powerful varsity eight, plus an adaptive doubles race. The Stotesbury Cup is now considered the most competitive and one of the most prestigious high school regattas in the United States.
The regatta, which is run entirely by volunteers, stretches over two days beginning with qualifying time trials at 8 a.m. on Friday. Semifinals begin late Friday afternoon and continue into Saturday morning beginning at 8. Finals begin Saturday at 1 p.m.
The regatta also includes an exhibition row on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. by the "Golden Eight," composed of veteran rowers from the Philadelphia area, and an adaptive race at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday.
