USRowing will send a men's eight to the Windermere Cup in Seattle on Saturday, May 3, to compete in a match race with Canada, the defending world champions in the event.
The U.S. crew of coxswain Pete Cipollone (Ardmore, Pa.), stroke Jon Watling (Greenwich, Conn.), Bryan Volpenhein (Cincinnati, Ohio), Luke McGee (Brant Lake, N.Y.), Mike Wherley (Sun Prairie, Wis.), Wolf Moser (Moultonboro, N.H.), Joseph Hansen (Bakersfield, Calif.), Jason Read (Ringoes, N.J.), and Ryan Torgerson (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) includes seven members of last year's world championships' bronze medal men's eight. In total, the crew has more than 40 National Team appearances and 18 world championships' medals between them.
The Canadian crew traveling to Seattle includes seven members of last year's world champion men's eight -- Jeff Powell, Joe Stankevicius, Andrew Hoskins, Adam Kreek, Kevin Light, Kyle Hamilton and Ben Rutledge. Rounding out the lineup are Cam Baerg and David Calder.
The Windermere Cup Regatta, hosted by the University of Washington and Windermere Real Estate, is in its 17th year. Racing begins at 10:20 a.m. on Saturday on the University of Washington's home course through the Montlake Cut on Lake Washington. The Windermere Challenge Cup between the U.S. and Canada is scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m.
