It is my sad duty to report to you this evening the death today of G. Joseph "Joe" Creed, of an apparent massive heart attack. Joe was the Chief today at the Smokey Jacobs Regatta at the Occoquan Reservoir, a traditional event conducted by the National Capital Area Scholastic Rowing Association (NCASRA), an organization Joe was instrumental in founding and maintaining throughout its existence. Joe collapsed at the finish line, where he was taking times, and was eventually transported to Fairfax Inova Hospital, the area's major trauma center, where he expired.
Plans for services are at this early point are a work in progress. In a real sense, all of his referee colleagues, and his many rowers at Catholic University, and all those associated with his beloved NCASRA, were his real and true family. I hope that all of us consider honoring Joe's memory at the appropriate time and place, and as more detailed information becomes available we'll make sure it's distributed in a timely manner.
Please reflect on Joe's passing, and take care of your own health and well being and those of your loved ones, and please say a prayer in Joe's memory.
Thank you,
Tom Mannle
