In the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings, the Boston (and beyond) rowing community is rallying around the efforts of Radcliffe lighweight rower Corinne Wee who designed a shirt featuring blade patterns of Boston area schools. Proceeds to benefit Boston Children's Hospital. Here is Corinne's letter to the rowing community.
Dear friends,
Over the past week, Boston has become stronger than ever. Bostonians have gathered at places of worship, school campuses and hospitals for candlelight vigils to honor those who lost their lives. We gave blood, we opened our homes to those who needed a place to stay, we cheered on our law enforcement officers, and we supported those around us in any way we could. We have truly earned the motto "Boston Strong."
This Saturday and Sunday (April 27 and 28) will mark the beginning of the Row for Boston Campaign as six colleges from around the Boston area race on the Charles for the Muri Cup and Women's Beanpot. Instead of wearing our individual school uniforms this weekend, every rower participating in these races will be wearing the same "Row for Boston" shirt as a symbol of strength and unity. The shirt features the oar designs of each individual college, all coming together to form the word "Boston." While we will all be racing against each other down the course, we recognize that we all have one thing in common: Every single one of us is proud to row for Boston.
We would love for you to join us in our campaign. Each of the T-shirts that we will be wearing benefits Boston Children's Hospital Emergency and Trauma Fund, which continues to aid in the recovery of those injured in the attacks by helping children and families get the emergency treatment they need when faced with tragedy. We are thankful to USRowing and Boathouse Sports, who will be supporting our cause by donating all of the proceeds from the sales to Children's Hospital.
Ways that you can help: 1) We hope that you will consider purchasing a shirt to support our cause at the follow site: http://bostonstrong.boathousegear.com/ [The original shirts that we will be racing in can also be found at a local Boston store: http://www.qrsts.com/index.php?page=row-for-boston] 2) Boston Children's Hospital is accepting direct donations through our fundraising page. 3) Change your cover photo to help raise awareness about our campaign! The photo is attached.
Please feel free to pass this along to anyone that you think may be interested in supporting our cause. We are so grateful for your help, and we invite you to come cheer us on this weekend as we race down the Charles in support of this wonderful city.
All questions about the campaign can be directed to [email protected].
Sincerely,
Corinne Wee Harvard-Radcliffe Lightweight Crew
