PRINCETON, N.J. - Wyatt Allen, two-time Olympian and University of California Assistant Director of Compliance, has been selected to serve on the USRowing High Performance Committee.
Allen replaces Cameron Winklevoss as one of two athlete representatives on the committee. He will serve the remainder of the term, which ends April 2014. Nominees for the vacant position were selected based upon a number of criteria but primarily their experiences as an athlete or coach at the elite level in the sport of rowing. The committee is made up of seven members including two active athletes as defined by the United States Olympic Committee constitution.
Allen served as an assistant coach at the University of Washington in 2009, and assistant varsity coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of California from 2010-13.
After earning a degree in economics from the University of Virginia in 2001, Allen went on to become a seven-time senior U.S. national team member and two-time Olympian. Allen's career highlights include setting a world record in the eight in 2004, winning gold in the eight at the 2004 Olympic Games and bronze in the eight at the 2008 Olympic Games. He was named USRowing's Male Athlete of the Year in 2007.
The primary task of the High Performance Committee is to develop any and all plans and programs for the identification and the selection of elite athletes to represent the United States in international competition. In addition to that, the committee may be called upon to make recommendations to USRowing governing body and the U.S. National Team coaches regarding other facets of the national team, such as the selection of national team assistant coaching staff personnel, and alternate athlete selection.
