Officials of several season-ending collegiate regattas have announced that the regattas will be held in multiple locations this year. "In an effort to be equally fair to crews from different regions, and to minimize travel expenses, heats for Dad Vails will be raced in Tucson, AZ; the semifinals will be held in North Dakota, and the finals will be held in Rumson, NJ," officials have revealed.
This will take place during the usual Friday/Saturday time period. Meanwhile, IRA officials have confirmed that - although the heats will be raced in Puerto Vallarta as previously scheduled - the locations for the semifinals and the finals will be revealed only through a series of clues to be discovered at the launch and recovery docks. "Revealing the location too soon might give an advantage to crews in the locality where the semis and finals are to be held," an official speaking off the record disclosed. "By making crews figure it out on the fly, this levels the playing field a little and brings an element of brain work into the competition."
In a related story, the organizers of the Scholastic Regatta, which has traditionally moved from location to location each year, has announced that - after decades of perambulations - "it is time we picked a spot and settled down." A permanent location is expected to be announced soon by the Scholastic Rowing Association.
