To clear up some of the confusion remaining from last year's regatta, the regatta's management has announced that, beginning in 2007, all sophomores irrespective of academic status will row in the freshmen events, (these will be known as "red-shirt sophomores").
Additionally, a new category, known as red-shirt seniors, will be given additional years of eligibility and will not be allowed to race in the masters events until they have reached the age of 45 1/2. A true red-shirt freshman, who -- upon becoming a red-shirt sophomore -- may continue wearing a red shirt only as long as they are a full-time student at a college or university whose uniforms are red.
The category of "red-shirt freshman" is not to be confused with "crimson-shirt freshman" or any other hue of freshman or sophomore.
