Lebanon, NH March 31, 2005 - After four years with Rowing News, the magazine of rowing, former world champion and Olympian Ed Winchester has been named Executive Editor for AMC Outdoors, the magazine of the Appalachian Mountain Club. Winchester holds degrees in journalism from Ryerson and Carleton universities and worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and several Canadian newspapers before joining Rowing News in 2001.
"Its a sad day for Rowing News, but Im thrilled for Ed," said Rowing News publisher Chip Davis. "AMC Outdoors is getting a great editor. Ed was the editorial force behind our redesign three years ago, our development into a feature-driven magazine two years ago, and our arrival on newsstands last year. Well miss him. But this a great thing for Ed. Im not surprised that a bigger magazine noticed his obvious skill and potential."
Although Winchester will assume his new role in May, Rowing News will continue to feature the content he planned for the 2005 editorial calendar. Publisher and founding editor Chip Davis will assume the responsibilities of editor in the short term before naming a new editor later this year.
(Ed. note: no fooling on this one, folks.)
