The US rowing farm system (college rowing teams) is like no other in the world. Mike Teti takes the best of the best from across the country, and creates champions. But this year, there's a twist. In a new tactic previously seen only on college campuses, USRowing confirmed today that it has managed to sign a promising new recruit. Olaf Tufte, medal-winner for Norway, will be donning a different red-white-blue uni this summer, hopefully to bolster the US' chances in Athens. Olaf Tufte, reached for comment fresh after breaking the world record for 100,000m over the weekend, crushing the previous record by over 14 minutes, said "I love America. Basically, USRowing made me an offer that was too good to refuse." When asked about Tufte, USRowing's Glenn Merry commented, "Olaf has deep roots in the United States. In fact, he once had a great-uncle who emigrated to North Dakota to farm at the beginning of this century." When asked whether it might be wiser to cultivate domestic talent, Merry replied, "Outsourcing is all the rage with our corporate sponsors. The Germans were a little pricey, but the cost of living is much cheaper in Scandinavia."
