After an all-night session, the US Congress announced substantial changes to Title IX legislation. Beginning in 2005, all crew coaches and assistant crew coaches will be entitled to their own Lear jets for recruiting trips and spring training. "We felt it was time to level the playing field with the other big money sports, such as fencing and diving," a senator explained, speaking on conditions of anonymity (and the promise that the senator's kid would get into Yale). "It will also help the US compete with the European space program." Other changes to Title IX are that University presidents will now report directly to their own Athletic Directors.
In signing the legislation, President Bush said. "I am happy to sign this legislation. I am always happy to sign legislation. Signing legislation is what I do best."
