It was announced today that Adam Parfitt of Victoria, B.C. has been appointed to the position of National Team Coordinator for Rowing Canada. Parfitt, a former National Team rower, is replacing Shannon Talentino who left the position after more than four years. "Shannon has been an outstanding manager, and I'm sure that Adam will bring the same energy and commitment to the role of National Team Coordinator," says incoming High Performance Director Alan Roaf. "His experience as an athlete, as well as his recent management background make him an ideal person for the job."
The National Team Coordinator is a key member of the team who manages its day-to-day operations including planning training camps, budgeting and traveling to major competitions and events, among other duties. Parfitt, a two-time Olympian, began as an athlete with the National Junior Team in 1991. He was a member of the UVic Varsity team in the early 1990s and was a member of the National Team from 1994 to 2000, rowing in the men's four and eight. Since 2000, he has been the manager of the Victoria City Rowing Club at Elk Lake, also the training site of the Canadian National Team. He also served as Rowing Canada's assistant manager on the team's European tour in 2004. The National Team's season officially kicks off with its selection trials, which take place this year from June 10 to 12 in Victoria for the men, and June 17 to 19 in London, Ontario, for the women.
