The women's pair of Darcy Marquardt of Richmond, B.C. and Romina Stefancic of Victoria, B.C. won the 1000-metre event in 03:32.16 at the FISA Team Cup in Spain. This same women's pair also won the 500-metre sprint in 01:42.3 today.
The Canadians have been winter training in Spain to prepare for the 2006 season. "We leave for Canada tomorrow morning with solid foundations on which to build over the next few months. It's been interesting to get an early look at some of this year's competition and we cant wait to race them again," said Marquardt.
In the women's single, Anna-Marie deZwager of Victoria was second to Frida Svensson of Sweden in 03:42.73. Jane Rumball of Fredericton, N.B. was fourth. In the 500-metre event, Rumball was second, and deZwager was third (full results not available).
The Canadian lightweight women's double (Mara Jones and Amber Cuthbertson) were third.
The 12th FISA Cup included top crews from 22 countries, including World Champions from the British men's four - Steve Williams, Andy Hodge, Alex Partridge and Peter Reed who won their event in 2:54.
Canada had entries in the women's single, women's pair and women's lightweight double. Canada's men did not participate in this regatta.
