We are very sad to report that Wilson Condon, one of the most successful varsity rowing coaches in the history of the Stanford mens' crew, passed away peacefully in Anchorage, Alaska, on December 27th, survived by his wife, Susan.
Wil coached the Stanford freshman crew for the 1963 season, then succeeded Conn Findlay as the Varsity coach the following season. He held that position for seven years, at the same time serving as Stanford's assistant director of financial aids and then as a law school student. As varsity coach, Wil's crew never lost to Cal Berkeley and defeated the University of Washington crew in the spring of 1968.
After graduation from law school, Wil left for Alaska to practice law, eventually holding positions as the Attorney General and subsequently the Commissioner of Revenue of that state, in addition to founding his own private law practice, specializing in oil and gas law.
Wil touched the lives of many students at Stanford and will be a part of Stanford Crew history forever. Plans for a memorial service in Anchorage are pending.
