Rob Hammill reports:
All forms of media radio, press and TV have requested to speak to the crew of Team Sun Latte on their Tech Rentals phone at various times since the race started. It was on that premise that I asked them to phone an Auckland number on Christmas day at a prearranged time. The number they called was not a radio station or television network but was in fact Sir Edmund Hillarys home phone. Sir Edmund had graciously agreed to give words of encouragement to them.
I spoke with Sir Ed soon after he had talked with Tara Remington. He said that she "Quite obviously found the shark episode rather trying," but that "She seemed in good shape psychologically." Evidence of that statement was born out when Iain 'The Brave' Rudkin managed to get back in the water yesterday to clean the underside of the hull, despite a gnawing fear of a shark attacking from the depths. The driving motivation for Iain was the thought of going slower over the remaining period of the race.
The crew of Team Sun Latte intend to put in their biggest effort to date for Christmas day in the hope that supporters of the campaign will donate $1 for every mile they row in that 24 hour period to 'Breath4CF' or the Cystic Fibrosis foundation.
