Dan Boyne's book KELLY: A Father, a Son, an American Quest has been optioned for a film with Flashlight Films and co-directors Kip Nelson and Allyn Stewart (whose credits include "Driving Miss Daisy"). Screenwriters Paul Tamasy & Eric Johnson, who were nominated for an Academy Award for "The Fighter," have been hired to write the final script and screenplay. Three or four different actors have been proposed for the role of Jack Kelly Sr., one of whom is Armie Hammer, who played both Winklevoss twins in The Social Network. Since KELLY is about both Jack Sr. and Jack Jr. it is possible that Hammer could play both parts, but its unlikely, according to Boyne.
Boyne himself has been hired on as a consultant, as he was for the Social Network rowing scenes, so there is room for optimism that the rowing scenes will appear "authentic" (budget allowing, as Dan himself notes).
