Rowing Canada Aviron today confirmed a $20,000 purse for the upcoming National Rowing Championships (NRCs) in London, Ontario (Nov. 3 and 4, 2009).
"We are delighted to announce that, once again, there is a $20,000 prize pool for the NRCs," said Rowing Canada Aviron VP High Performance Phil Monckton. "This prize money not only heightens the intensity and excitement of the racing, it provides much-needed support to our top athletes."
The purse, as in previous years, is made possible through a private donation. Prize distribution will be based on a formula created by RCA's high performance program management.
The National Rowing Championships, first held in 2006, serve as a starting point for coaches to assess the pool of athletes trying out for RCA's 2010 National Teams - from development to the senior level. Time trials will be held on Nov. 3, with semi-finals in the afternoon of the same day. Finals will run on Nov. 4.
More info on the NRCs will be made available in the coming days, as entries are confirmed and the draw is released.
