Several 2007 U.S. National Team members will compete in various events this weekend at the 2007 Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass. USRowing's Princeton Training Center is the top seed in the women's championship eights race, having won the race last year. The crew of coxswain Mary Whipple, Caroline Lind, Susan Francia, Anna Mickelson, Sam Magee, Anna Goodale, Rachel Jeffers, Erin Cafaro and Lindsay Shoop includes seven members of the women's eight that won the gold medal at the 2007 FISA World Rowing Championships in September in Munich, Germany. At the Charles, Rachel Jeffers and Erin Cafaro will replace Caryn Davies and Brett Sickler from the gold-medal boat. The two newcomers to the lineup won gold in the women's four at this year's world championships. Davies and Sickler will race in different events in Boston. USRowing will have two entries in the men?s championship eight. The crew of coxswain Marcus McElhenney, Josh Inman, Steve Coppola, Dan Walsh, Brett Newlin, Giuseppe Lanzone, Wyatt Allen, Brodie Buckland and Matt Schnobrich is seeded first as USRowing's top entry won the race last year. At this year's world championships, Lanzone and Schnobrich raced in the men's four, while the remaining seven crew members competed in the men's eight, finishing fourth. The second crew includes coxswain Dan Gilbert, Cameron Winklevoss, Ted Farwell, Ben Harrison, Chris Callaghan, Jake Cornelius, Alex Hearne, David Banks and Tyler Winklevoss. Hearne rowed in the eight at this year's world championships, while the Winklevoss brothers served as alternates on the squad. Michelle Guerette, who won a bronze medal in the single sculls at this year's world championships, leads a talented field in the women's championship single sculls. The 2005 Head of the Charles champion will take on a 28-sculler field that includes 2007 World Championships teammates Ala Piotrowski, Liane Malcos, Jen Kaido and Sickler, as well as several top international competitors. Piotrowski and Kaido rowed in the double sculls at the world championships, finishing eighth, while Malcos finished sixth as a member of the quadruple sculls. The men's championship single sculls event includes only one member of this year's world's squad - Andrew Liverman, who raced in the lightweight double sculls . The field does include some top international scullers such as New Zealand's Mahe Drysdale, the defending world champion, and Argentina's Santiago Fernandez. Past U.S. National Team members Mike Perry and Gabe Winkler also are scheduled to race. In the women's championship double sculls, several 2007 team members will race including Davies, Sarah Bates, Margaret Duggan, Jana Heere and Wendy Tripician. Heere and Tripician, who will race together in Boston, rowed in the lightweight double sculls at this year's world championships, while Bates and Duggan team up after competing together in the lightweight quadruple sculls in Munich. Davies will race with Whitney Post. Six current national team members are entered in the men?s championship double sculls. J. Sloan DuRoss and Sam Stitt are back to defend their championship in Boston. DuRoss raced in the quadruple sculls at the 2007 World Championships, while Stitt raced in the double sculls. Deaglan McEachern, also a member of the quad, will race with Francis Cuddy, who served as an alternate at this year?s world championships. McEachern and Cuddy finished second at last year's Head of the Charles. Mark Flickinger, who stroked the quad in Munich, will row with 2004 Olympian Aquil Abdullah. USRowing has two entries in the men's championship four. The crew of coxswain Ned DelGuercio, Chris Liwski, Sam Burns, Dan Beery and Matt Deakin won the gold medal at the world championships in the four with coxswain and will row together again in Boston. The second boat will be made up of coxswain Marty Rabjohns, Bryan Volpenhein, Beau Hoopman, Jason Read and Kyle Larson. Volpenhein and Hoopman raced in the four without coxswain in Munich, while Read and Larson raced in the pair. Rabjohns coxed the Australian men?s eight in Munich. Carey Brezler is the lone member of this year's national team entered in the lightweight women's single sculls event, while the lightweight men's single sculls race has four members of the squad - Rich Montgomery, Cody Lowry, Tim Larson and Jon D'Alba.
