USRowing is pleased to announce the hiring of Mike Teti to assist men's head coach Tim McLaren in the preparation and selection of the U.S. men's eight for next year's Final Olympic Qualification Regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Currently men's head coach at the University of California, Teti joined the Golden Bears in September of 2008 following a long tenure as men's head coach of the U.S. National Team. In his first season at Cal, Teti led the men's eight to a second-place finish at the IRA Championships and followed that up with a gold medal at the 2010 IRA Championships. During his time as USRowing's men's head coach, Teti led the men's eight to Olympic gold in 2004, Olympic bronze in 2008, and world championship titles in 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2005. U.S. National Team crews produced 28 total medals under Teti's guidance during that time. Over the past two summers, Teti has worked with the U.S. Under 23 National Team, leading the under 23 men's eight to a silver medal in 2010 and a gold medal in 2011.
"I'm excited to have Mike Teti return to our coaching staff," said USRowing Chief Executive Officer Glenn Merry. "With Mike assisting head coach Tim McLaren with the men's eight this year, I'm confident that our men will have the opportunity to reach the podium in London this summer."
Teti will assist McLaren in Chula Vista, Calif., and Berkeley, Calif., as the crew prepares for the qualification regatta scheduled for May 20-23, 2012. The winner of the qualification regatta earns a berth to the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England.
