Jack Sholl wrote row2k with the following news of Ragnar Hegna:
Dear Ed,
I received sad news yesterday when I learned that Ragnar Hegna, Golden Eight crew member, passed away at the age of 80 on January 14 in Oslo, Norway, his home. Ragnar rowed at Fairmount Rowing Association, with the Kieffer brothers, while attending Drexel U. as an exchange student. Rags won 17 US National Championship medals while at Fairmount Rowing Association. As an indication of his dedication to rowing and his rowing friends, Rags flew from Oslo to Australia, in 1997, to replace an ailing John Kieffer in our 70 year old Golden Eight 4+. During WWII, as a teen-ager in Oslo, Rags was a skier for the Norwegian resistance movement.
Rowing lost one of its finest.
Take care, Jack
