We wanted to let the rowing community know that Calvin Coffey was critically injured in a car accident; he seems to be on the mend per the note from his wife Maggie below; tremendous thanks to Maggie for letting us know. The hearts and prayers of the rowing community are with you, Cal, and with your family.
An update from Maggie today (Monday) at 3:15pm:
Dear Ed,
Thank you so very much for your kind note of support. We have good news on Cal today as he is now conscious (no longer sedated) and hopefully will be off the respirator later today.
He is currently in the SUNY Upstate Medical Center:

Syracuse, NY 13210-1834

If anyone would like to send him a note, they could either try reaching him at the hospital, here at home (2820 County Road 21, Watkins Glen, NY 14891) or by e-mail ([email protected]).
Thanks so very much for your kind words, thoughts and prayers. The support of the 'rowing family' means so much to us all as we witness Calvin in the toughest race of his life.
Sincerely,
Maggie Coffey
Among his many achievements, Cal was the 1976 Silver medalist in the men's pair in Montreal, a Northeastern Univ. two time Sprint winner and Grand Challenge Cup finalist. We will keep folks updated with any new information as it comes available; everyone is pulling for you, Cal.
