Friday is quarter-final day at Henley Royal Regatta, and with it comes increased drama, suspense and action. With several high-profile names already falling victim to the brutal nature of Henley racing, here is a look at the potential highlights in tomorrow's schedule...
Remember, Henley is five hours ahead of EDT in the US.
All times are local.
9:05am: Race 7: University of London 'A' vs. Cornell University 'A', USA (Temple)
The undefeated Cornell juggernaut faces perhaps its sternest test yet in the form of the University of London. Cornell didn't lose a race during a lightweight season where they accumulated every prize available, whilst the University of London have been perennial challengers in the UK. This has the potential to be a classic.
9:20am: Race 10: J.H. Graves, USA vs. J.A. Kirkwood (Diamonds)
In the most gladiatorial of contests, two big names from the sculling scene meet on the waters of Henley. John Graves, who is a semi-regular at Henley, meets Jamie Kirkwood, former lightweight trials winner for Great Britain and now assistant coach at Oxford University.
9:30am: Race 11: Mercantile Rowing Club, Australia vs. Sport Imperial Boat Club
Arguably two of the favourites meet in the quarter-finals. Sport Imperial were consummate in defeating City of Bristol whilst Mercantile have already beaten opposition from Germany and the UK. Sport Imperial were finalists in the semi-finalists in this event last year.
9:40am: Race 13: University of California, Berkeley, USA vs. Santa Clara University, USA
Another race that will dictate the Temple tempo, as Cal, Berkeley meet surprise quarter-finalists Santa Clara. Cal are undoubtedly the favourites, having performed convincingly thus far. Can Santa Clara upset the odds and send the Bears home early?
10:35am: Race 22: New York Athletic Club, USA vs. Ohio State University, USA (Women's Fours)
One of a number of stellar match-ups to inaugurate the women's fours to the Henley Royal Regatta program. In an all-American contest, an all-star American national crew come up against Ohio State, whose Varsity eight were winners at Henley Women's Regatta.
11:20am: Race 30: Ohio State University, USA vs. Leander Club and the University of London (Remenham)
Winners of elite eights at Henley Women's Regatta, Ohio State have made the long trip to Henley to meet none other than the British women's eight in their first round. However, this is a much-changed line-up from the crew that won silver in Rio, so the Americans may not be out of it yet.
11:30am: Race 31: Dartmouth College, USA vs. RTHC Bayer Leverkusen, Germany (Ladies)
A race that is likely to be closely matched, although many will fancy the German powerhouses. Serial representatives at Henley, RTHC Bayer Leverkusen won the Britannia Challenge Cup last year and are looking to add the Ladies to their collection. Dartmouth College are the first hurdle to navigate.
11:45am: Race 34: M.E. Kalmoe & T.E. Eisser, USA vs. A.J. White and M.M.M. Goudet
Megan Kalmoe and Tracy Eisser are well-established names on the international circuit and will take some beating in the first year of the women's pairs. A Cambridge University combination will prove stern opposition, especially in light of winning the 2017 Women's Boat Race.
2:10pm: Race 43: O.J. Varley & H.B. Coussens vs. P.H. Houin & J.A. Azou, France
The Henley Royal Regatta crowds get to witness an authentic Olympic, World and European champion crew in the form of the French lightweight double. An outstanding combination who have begun 2017 in just as convincing a fashion as they ended 2016, and they're hot favourites to progress to the Sunday.
2:30pm: Race 46: St Paul's School vs. Scotch College, Australia (Princess Elizabeth)
The Australian National Champions face up against the British National Champions in a race that is sure to deliver the goods. St Paul's dispatched Melbourne Grammar School on their way to the final of this competition last year, and they'll have to beat antipodean opposition again to progress to Saturday.
3pm: Race 51: Newell T.C., USA & Mosman R.C., Australia vs. Brown University
Brown competed in the only Ladies Challenge Plate race of the day on the Thursday, emerging as comfortable winners over Team Keane Sculling School. Brown, who finished sixth in the IRA Varsity eights final, will be tested by a crew who are essentially a combination of Harvard University's second and third Varsity eights.
5:30pm: Race 66: Shiplake College vs. Gonzaga College High School, USA
In a year of early surprise exits, Gonzaga have stayed true to the form book in their attempts to win the title of schoolboy champion. They face home favourites Shiplake College, who dispatched Abingdon School on Thursday. Gonzaga are seasoned Henley racers, having last competed in 2015.
