Crew of the Week - 2012

Did your crew or a crew you know of have a great race over the weekend? Nominate them for row2k's first "Crew of the Week" poll for 2012.

Nominations must be submitted by 5PM EDT on Wednesday. row2k will then select the finalists for poll voting on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. The crew with the most votes will be recognized as row2k's "Crew of the Week."

Nomination criteria in 50 words or less:

  • Convince row2k that your crew executed an exceptional race or overcame difficult conditions and or opponent to win.
  • row2k will select crews from the following categories for the poll.
    • College Men's Heavyweight
    • College Women's Openweight
    • College Lightweight
    • Junior
    • Club/Masters/Elite
  • Only a crew's performance during the previous week will be taken into account during selection.
  • Any crew that wins "Crew of the Week" will be excluded for the rest of the season.


Previous Weeks

  • June 6
    • Winner - St. George's Senior Varsity 4+ - Won the Senior Heavy 4+ at Canadian School Nationals with three lightweights, then swapped in a fourth lightweight and won the Senior Lightweight 4+ an hour and a half later.

    • Finalists - Harvard Men's Lightweight Varsity 8+, Humboldt State Women, National Cathedral School Women's Varsity 8+, Northeastern Men's Freshmen 8+, St. Augustine Boy's Junior 8+, Stanford Women's Lightweight Varsity 8+, Virginia Men's Varsity 8+, Washington Men
  • May 15
    • Winner - West Side Boys Junior Varsity 4+ - Crew won the Men's Senior 4+ event at the NYS Championships, in the process defeating the defending champs from Saratoga by 0.24 seconds. The win was the first win of any kind for all five members of the crew.

    • Finalists - Brown Men's Varsity 8+, Mercyhurst Men's Lightweight Varsity 8+, Michigan Men and Women, Radcliffe Women's Openweight Varsity 8+, Taft Boys Junior Varsity 4+
  • May 1
    • Winner - Franklin & Marshall Men's Varsity 4+ - Won first gold medal at Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference championship regatta in team history (defeating SIRA champion Marietta) and led the Diplomats to the program's first-ever team conference championship.

    • Finalists - Buffalo Women's Varsity 4+, Marietta Women's Varsity 8+, Oklahoma Women's Varsity 8+, Orange Coast Men's Varsity 8+, Roman Catholic High School, Virginia Women's Varsity 8+, Yale Lightweight Freshmen 8+
  • April 24
    • Winner - Cornell Men's Heavyweight Varsity 8+ - Ranked #11, Cornell defeated #4 and #5 Princeton and Yale to win the Carnegie Cup. Cornell also swept the heavyweight events.

    • Finalists - Duke Women's Novice 8+, George Washington Men's Varsity 8+, Humboldt State Women's Varsity 8+, Nova Southeastern Women's Varsity 4+
  • April 18
    • Co-Winners - Bryn Mawr Women's Varsity 4+ and Grand Valley State Men's Varsity 8+ - Bryn Mawr made the finals of the Knecht Cup for the first time in history, then won final after having to sub in another rower following the semifinals. Grand Valley State defeated Michigan for the first time since 2004 by six seconds at the Lubbers Cup. The Laker's were down at the 1000 and came back to win by open water.
    • Voting Results Note - when we checked at 5pm we had a numerical draw, and since we had never seen this before (and there is not really a prize at stake), while we were discussing how to proceed, a few votes snuck in to break the tie. So we are declaring a draw given the status at the 5pm deadline; congrats to Bryn Mawr and Grand Valley!
    • Finalists - Loyola Marymount Women, Nova Southeastern Women's Varsity 8+, Wisconsin Women's Lightweight Freshmen 8+
  • April 11
    • Winner - George Washington Women's Varsity 8+ - Won the Wilkins Bowl at the GW Invite for the first time since 2005 and just the second time in program history. In the final race, crew defeated Navy by 0.7 seconds.
    • Voting Results
    • Finalists - Northeastern Men's Varsity 8+, Oxford's Blue Boat, Cornell Women's Varsity 8+, Penn Women's Varsity 8+
  • April 4
    • Winner - Georgetown Lightweight Men's Varsity 8+ - The Hoyas captured the Fosburgh Cup for the first time, beating Princeton and Columbia on Lake Carnegie. Half a length down on the Tigers mid-way through the race, the Hoyas moved out to open water over Princeton over the next 300 meters to win by 3 seconds.

    • Finalists - Capital Junior Women's LW8+, Duke Women's Varsity 8+, Jones/Masters TAMix2x, Temple Women's Varsity 8+, Western Washington Men's Varsity 8+
