1997 Belly of the Carnegie photo gallery
November 1, 1997
Ed Hewitt, row2k.com

These pictures were chosen for inclusion not for their exemplary rowing, but for just the opposite; most of the rowing found herein will be the cause of grimacing, bemusement, psychological pain, and outright laughter. I maintain that it is a laughter of recognition, the stuff of genuine classic humor, wherein we all understand all too well... Names have been omitted to protect the guilty, and because I don't know them.

The Photos:

  • The men's field approaches the turn. There are as many interpretations of the shortest distance between two points as there are novice coxswains.
  • If you still don't believe me...
  • Never have USA blades been so high and dry.
  • The blue section seats sit out the wave...
  • I'm not quite sure what's going on here, and neither are they.
  • The obligatory crash series.
  • Ego stroking: my namesake.
