American single sculler Clark Dean ended a 50 year drought for the USA in the junior men's single by winning gold at the Junior World Championships in Trakai, Lithuania. The win capped a stellar season for Dean, who also finished 6th in world in the M4-, won Stotesbury in the M1x, bronze in the M8+ at Youth Nationals, and silver in the M8+ at HOCR.
The last American to win the single at Junior Worlds was Jim Dietz in 1967.
