• The US Olympic women's double of Tomek and Kalmoe officially reunited for the first time this spring, winning their time trial
• NSR 1 singles winner Brett Sickler racing in the women's double; Sickler earned the right to contest the single at the last NSR, but she may be trying her luck in team boats as well.
• The height differences in the Anderson/Hovey double might remind some folks of the NZ double last summer, and definitely seemed to click as the crew won this morning.
• Jamie Koven rowing in the bow seat of a pair with 2008 men's eight member Dan Walsh. The pair first rowed together yesterday, and placed fifth today, nipping the 2008 Olympic pair of Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss. Comeback?
• A hybrid tulip/hatchet blade in one of the light pairs.

Semis continue tomorrow morning, with finals on Sunday morning. Possible spots on the 2009 World Championships teams in all the doubles (men's double, women's double, men's lightweight double, women's lightweight double) and the pairs (men's pair, women's pair) are at stake:

For all four double sculls and the open weight pairs, the regatta serves as the first step towards making the 2009 Senior National Team that will represent the United States at the 2009 FISA World Rowing Championships in Poznan, Poland. The winner of each event will earn the right to compete at a world cup race of their choosing. If the NSR #2 winner finishes in the top four (or top half if there are fewer than eight entries) at the world cup, then the crew will be nominated to the team. For the lightweight men's pair, NSR #2 serves as an opportunity for athletes to test their speed in preparation for selection camps and trials. The top two finishers get automatic invitations to the lightweight men's four selection camp.
