Crew of the morning: the Rutgers HW V8, which raced nearly even with , and even blasted into the lead with 400 to go, before dropping back to 2nd to make the V8 Grand Final for the first time in 22 years, by 6/100 of a second over Cornell.
We said the lightweight 8 would be close, and go figure, the lightweight 8 was close. The top four in each heat: Heat 1 Harvard 6.05.2 Georgetown 6:05.72 Princeton 6:06.3 Cornell 6:06.61
Heat 2: Columbia 6:06.61 Yale 6:07.79 Dartmouth 6:08.16 Navy 6:08.67
On the times, that’s closed water among the top eight eights, pretty much as the regular season indicated. A few weeks ago, Dick Grossman, who may be the elder statesman among the lightweight ranks, said “I’ve never seen anything like this.” The final should be okay racing, we figure.
