With riggers loaded

Do you find yourself with a growing fleet of winged boats and a shrinking amount of space in the bed of your trailer? We found a great hack for that in our travels, one that keeps your wings stacked up compactly and keeps them from getting damaged to boot: the Wing (Rigger) Crate.

These are a custom build that we spotted on the University of Virginia men's trailer last spring: the UVA Men use them to travel in well-packed style, and they might be worth the time you'd have to invest if you are planning to travel with more than a few winged boats this coming year.

Each one holds four riggers, is reusable, and is also sturdy enough to stack, if you are really pressed for space. The interior supports also protect the riggers from each other and--this might be the part we like best--you can actually see the riggers to make sure you have all the right ones on the trailer (with all due respect to the Rigger Bag lobby, not being able to quickly see all the stuff on your trailer is a recipe for leaving the wrong things behind when you roll out).

We also liked the fact that the external frame means that you can stack things on top of these "crates"--which is a neat solution for the ever-dwindling amount of trailer space that programs face once they start traveling with an expanding fleet of winged boats. They probably work pretty well for storing riggers in the corner of the boathouse in the off-season, too.

Got a neat way to pack the tricky stuff when you travel? Share your tips--and hacks--in the comments below.
