COACHES |
|
CRRC offers the finest camp coaching staff in the nation.
Since his 1985 arrival, Head Lightweight Coach Charley Butt has led Harvard to 12 Eastern crowns and seven national championships, including the 2011 EARC and IVY League Championship.
As a coach, Butt's experience extends well beyond Harvard, including five stints as a United States Olympic coach, a position he continues to hold. His most recent stint with Olympic crews came in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing where he guided Radcliffe alumna Michelle Guerette '02 to a silver medal in the women's single sculls. Butt has coached every discipline, sculling and sweep, and division, men and women, heavyweight and lightweight, within his five tours as an Olympic coach.
Butt's athletes have also experienced success at the international level with undergrads. Most recently, Andrew Campbell ’14, who was selected as the U.S lightweight single, won a bronze medal in the event at the 2011 World Rowing Under 23 World Championships in Amsterdam, and then a fourth-place finish at the 2011 World Championships in Bled, Slovenia. Following these performances, Campbell was named USRowing’s Man of the Year in fall 2011.
An outstanding oarsman himself, Butt rowed as part of 5 senior national teams from the late 70’s to mid 8o’s. In 1985, Butt was a silver medalist for the US lightweight eight at the world championships in Belgium. The following year, Butt and his teammates won the Henley Royal Regatta’s Wyfold Challenge Cup.
Assisting with the CRRC this summer will be Harvard freshman coaches Linda Muri and Billy Boyce. Associate head coach of men’s rowing Bill Manning is looking forward to his 10th year with CRRC as well.
In addition we look forward to the return to Newell of CRRC veteran coaches Pete Cathey (head coach at the University of New Hampshire), Tony Kilbridge (head coach at MIT), John Lindberg (freshman coach at Boston University), and Adam Holland (a former Harvard freshman coach and member of seven US national teams, including the 1996 Olympic Team.” |

COMING TO CAMBRIDGE...TRAVEL HELP!
|
IF WE ARE PICKING YOU UP AT LOGAN AIRPORT ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON- Please do your best to arrive on a flight which lands in Boston between 1pm and 4pm. We will NOT meet you at your arrival gate inside the terminal; instead we will pick you up at the curb just outside the baggage claim area for your airline on the lower level of the airport. Please claim your baggage and wait outside on the covered sidewalk. Watch for a large crimson Ford van; the van driver will be looking for YOU. Please be patient - airport traffic and parking can be unpredictable. Just before camp, we will send to you a telephone number for the van driver.
IF YOU ARE A BOARDER ARRIVING BY CAR ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON- Please arrive at the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Richards Hall, behind 35 Oxford Street, Cambridge, MA, between 1pm and 5pm. Refer to the campus map at www.map.harvard.edu (search Richards Hall).
IF YOU ARE A DAY CAMPER ARRIVING ON WEEKDAY MORNINGS- You may park at Newell Boathouse parking lot for Monday morning registration (first come, first served). Refer to the campus map at www.map.harvard.edu (click "Harvard University", "Athletics Area"). However, after Monday registration, we may direct you to another nearby lot for the remainder of camp week.
IF YOU ARE ARRIVING ON FRIDAY MORNING FOR THE EXHIBITION ROW- It is EXTREMELY unlikely that parking will be available at Newell Boathouse on that morning, because of the large number of parents and spectators expected. However, there is plenty of parking available in Harvard Square, either on the street or in garages. Refer to www.harvardsquare.com/parking.php for garages within a few minutes' walk. |
