The Smith/Peschel pair is named trials winners. Fantastic racing; these crews have gone 6:36, 6:35, 6:37, and 6:41 in just the past few days. The Smith/Peschel pair got out to around a half length in the first half of the race, but the Miller/Ruckman pair never let them get away. The race continued with almost no change whatsoever in the margin for some time, and it was obvious from the bike path that no one was cruising, either. In the final 750, the Miller/Ruckman pair drew within a deck, and the Smith/Peschel pair countered to hold them there. In the final 15 strokes, the Miller/Ruckman pair charged again, and drew almost even, but the finish line arrived too soon, and they could not get through. The athletes were almost dazed after the end of racing; it was flat out for 5 days for these guys.
